Kathak combines rhythmic footwork, recitation and expressive movement. If storytelling first draws you to the form, the beginner pathway still gives attention to posture and taal so expression has a clear technical foundation.
Song-based semi-classical choreography is a separate option when your immediate aim is expressive dance to a chosen piece of music. Explain your goal at the demo so you can distinguish classical study from choreography-focused learning.

Qualifications depend on the examining body’s eligibility rules and assessment; acceptance or equivalence outside India is determined by the receiving institution, not guaranteed by enrolment.

Should I choose Kathak or semi-classical dance for a song?
Kathak develops classical technique and can include a structured syllabus. Semi-classical learning focuses on song-based choreography and expression. Share the song, purpose and any event date so the academy can discuss the appropriate route; semi-classical learning does not award a Kathak examination certificate.
Does this page’s time-zone guidance apply to overseas France?
