Cultural learning through doing, not just watching
For a child growing up abroad, Kathak can be a regular way to engage with Indian classical arts rather than an activity reserved for festivals. Speaking rhythmic syllables, counting a beat cycle and exploring what a gesture communicates connect movement with music and meaning.
Cultural learning does not require a child to arrive knowing terminology or every story. Ask how unfamiliar words and repertoire will be explained, and share the child's language comfort and interests. The goal is understanding and participation, not copying expressions without knowing what they mean.
Readiness matters more than a fixed starting age
A useful starting conversation looks at whether your child wants to participate, can follow a short instruction and is comfortable interacting with a teacher on screen. Some children need a parent nearby to help with technology and focus; others can work more independently. Discuss age, attention and previous learning during the FREE demo.
Foundational work can be broken into smaller parts: listen to a rhythm, say it aloud, practise the assigned footwork and add a hand movement when ready. Children do not need to master a full routine immediately, and no class format can guarantee that every child will stay engaged in the same way.
A parent's role in an online lesson
Before class, clear the floor and test the camera with your child standing and extending their arms. The teacher needs to see the feet as well as the face. An adult should help with setup and remain available according to the child's age and needs; agree with the teacher how much support is helpful during instruction.
Between lessons, encourage the teacher's assigned task rather than adding difficult steps from social media. Ask your child to explain the count or show the one correction they are practising. A small, calm practice routine is more useful than pressure to perform for visitors or compete with another child's progress.
Fit learning around school and family life abroad
Share your country, city or time zone, school commitments and suitable local times in the form below. Classes are arranged at mutually convenient local times, with daylight-saving changes handled when coordinating the timetable. The FREE demo is a chance to discuss the current format and whether online teaching fits your child.
International payment is available in local currency by credit or debit card via Stripe, through PayPal, and using supported local payment options. Confirm the available method for your country and the enrolment terms before committing. An exam pathway can be discussed later if your child is interested; it is not a condition for enjoying Kathak.
Plan your online learning
Live format and feedback
Choose group or one-on-one video-call classes; ask which suits your level. Keep your full body and feet in frame, with a stable camera, reliable internet and clear music. Confirm the platform before class.
Placement and practice
Tell the teacher about your experience and goals before choosing a level. Kathak begins with posture, tatkar, rhythm and recitation, then builds toward compositions and abhinaya. Ask for practice tasks between classes. Progress depends on readiness, attendance and practice.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the right age to begin?
There is no universal starting age. Share your child's age, interest, attention and ability to follow instructions. The FREE demo helps you and the teacher discuss readiness and the support needed for online learning.
Can my child learn without a Kathak teacher in our city?
Yes. Live online teaching provides instruction and feedback from home. A clear full-body camera view, a suitable floor, a stable connection and age-appropriate parent support are important.
Will my child need to take exams?
No. A child can learn for interest, rhythm, expression and cultural engagement. If your family later chooses exam preparation, discuss the syllabus, readiness and examining body's requirements; enrolment alone does not award a qualification.
Can classes fit around school in our local time?
Share your city or time zone and available local times when requesting the FREE demo. The academy arranges mutually convenient teaching times and handles daylight-saving changes when coordinating your schedule.
