    Your Australia Learning Guide

    Four cities, different clocks

Sydney and Melbourne use AEST (UTC+10) in standard time and AEDT (UTC+11) during daylight saving. Brisbane stays on AEST (UTC+10) year-round; Perth stays on AWST (UTC+8). A class time that works for a Melbourne friend may therefore be a different local hour in Brisbane or Perth.

Send your city and two or three preferred local-time windows. We agree a mutually convenient time and reconfirm it across daylight-saving changes. Australia’s seasonal clock changes do not follow the northern-hemisphere calendar; do not reuse an old India-to-Australia conversion when the clocks change.

Build a practice that fits home life

For a child, discuss age, attention span and parent support at the free demo rather than assuming an after-school group is available. For an adult, a short, repeatable practice routine can be easier to sustain alongside work than occasional long rehearsals.

Show a clear, non-slip practice area and position the camera so the teacher can see both feet and upper body. If footwork could disturb neighbours, tell the teacher about your flooring and space before progressing to more demanding practice.

Choose foundations before a performance goal

Beginner Kathak develops posture, tatkar, recitation and understanding of taal before longer compositions. Returning dancers can discuss previous training and level placement. If your main aim is song-based choreography for a family occasion, explore semi-classical learning separately rather than treating it as an examination syllabus.

    Live format and feedback

Choose group or one-on-one video-call classes; ask which suits your level. Keep your full body and feet in frame, with a stable camera, reliable internet and clear music. Confirm the platform before class.

    Placement and practice

Tell the teacher about your experience and goals before choosing a level. Kathak begins with posture, tatkar, rhythm and recitation, then builds toward compositions and abhinaya. Ask for practice tasks between classes. Progress depends on readiness, attendance and practice.

    Questions from Australia Learners

Will Brisbane and Sydney have the same class time all year?

Not necessarily. Brisbane does not observe daylight saving, while Sydney does. Give your city when enquiring; we agree your local time and reconfirm the arrangement when clocks change.

Can I join from Perth without travelling to a studio?

Yes, these are live online lessons, not an Australian studio listing. Share your AWST availability and show your practice space during the free demo. A mutually suitable time must be agreed before enrolment.

Can I pay in Australian dollars?

Local-currency payment in AUD is available. Credit/debit cards are offered via Stripe; PayPal is a separate option, alongside supported local methods. Confirm which options are available for your payment before enrolling.
